For traders, campaign performance often hinges on the degree of choice when selecting impressions. Tight budgets, narrow targeting, and limited supply can all restrict flexibility, forcing campaigns to buy whatever is available.
For William Owles, Trading Specialist at The Trade Desk in London, Decision Power Score can help make that trade-off visible and increase campaign reach. An integral part of the Kokai platform experience, Decision Power Score was designed to help traders understand how much room they have to make informed buying decisions before a campaign even launches.
Owles explains the concept with a straightforward example: If a campaign needs to buy 1,000 impressions and only has access to 1,000 available impressions, every impression must be purchased to deliver the budget. But when that available supply doubles, traders suddenly have the ability to choose the strongest performing impressions, leading to better outcomes.
That’s exactly what Decision Power Score measures. Scored from 0 to 100, it evaluates how much flexibility exists within a campaign’s setup. An ideal score of 80 or above indicates that a campaign has enough eligible impressions to be selective, while a lower score (under 40) indicates limited flexibility within the campaign.
By increasing visibility into the available impressions, Decision Power Score helps traders strike the right balance between scale and precision.
“Decision Power Score helps evaluate how much decision you have within your media buying.”
— William Owles, Trading Specialist, The Trade Desk
Decision Power Score can give traders a clearer signal into campaign health and optimization potential. Here’s how you can put it into practice:
Create room to choose: Ensure your campaign has access to more impressions than it strictly needs, so you’re not forced to buy everything available.
Expand inventory intentionally: Especially if your score is low, broaden your audience by targeting the Sellers and Publishers 500+, which can increase the volume of eligible impressions without changing your audience strategy.
Use data to scale smartly: Activate relevant third-party audiences from our data marketplace to access more supply. Audience segments are ranked by relevance, making it easier to identify audiences most likely to perform well.
Aim for balance: Target a Decision Power Score of 80 or higher to give the platform AI enough room to evaluate, optimize, and select the most valuable impressions.
By expanding relevant audiences and increasing available inventory, the same campaign can unlock stronger pacing, improved performance, and greater confidence in how budgets are deployed across the open internet. With Decision Power Score, you can turn constrained delivery into optimized performance.
