Person you’d most like to have dinner with: My Grandpa Charlie. He died before my Dad was born and all I really know about him is that he flew his plane underneath the Brooklyn bridge, which is pretty awesome.

The Trade Desk is now up to 412 employees, you were number 45. What was it like in the early days?
I think there were maybe 15 people in the New York office when I first joined. We had a tiny little space at 27th and Broadway. One of our two conference rooms used to be a recording studio. All the sound proofing fixtures that had been torn off by friends of the people who started before me, so there was this weird glue all over the walls. It was pretty hilarious.

Now we've got a little over a hundred people in the New York office, so from a sheer volume standpoint alone, it's different. But, I think we've done a really good job of trying to stay connected as one big team. We'll do things like [a lunch raffle] where every month there's a different group of three or four people randomly drawn. Usually some of the people are those who you wouldn't necessarily interact with on a day-to-day basis, but you get a chance to spend time together and get to know everyone.


What inspired you to join, back in the day?
The product itself, being what it is and being truly differentiated, was a huge factor in my decision. Being in sales especially, it's always really important to have something that you can go out and be excited to talk about. I wasn't a little girl who was like, "Yeah, I'm going to be a sales woman when I grow up!" But if there's something that I think is really amazing that I know can help my clients, then I'm really excited to go out and talk about that.

What is your day-to-day like?
We work really hard. I work on the business development side of things, aka sales. Our team is going out and trying to find either a new agency, like a new business entirely, or finding new brands within the agency that we already have existing relationships with. I also help the rest of the internal team with things that are ongoing with current clients. We work really closely together as a team, everyone is all in.

That sounds like a lot of work.
Hours are going to vary. We work really hard and we work a lot. I would say that whether that is spent specifically in the office, or on the road with clients, or sometimes working from home. It can vary and it's all kind of dependent on the needs of you, your clients, and your team.

I'm a big fan of making sure I have time to exercise, and I also will need a break in the evening. I will not stay until super late at night in the office. I'll go home and work out and then maybe I'll sign in again and finish whatever is necessary for that day.

What advice would you give a newbie?
Be humble, ask questions and be super curious. We've always made sure take the time to answer questions and train each other. People in other departments that aren't even closely related to what you're doing on a day-to-day basis will take hours of their time to help get you up to speed as soon as possible. So take advantage of that, it's not the case at a lot of companies. A lot of times it's more like, "I'm too busy doing my own thing, I can’t spend any time." But people here are beyond willing and want to help.
